Bandit came into the Atkins household as a foster dog from Friends of Animals Humane Society. The first morning Bandit was at the Atkins house, Karen heard some noise in the downstairs area and looked over the stair railing and found that Bandit had gotten into her purse and was eating candy on the living room carpet. He had eaten an entire rolls of Certs, a box of tic-tacs and was devouring a Hershey’s dark chocolate bar including the foil wrapping. The vet said to give him peroxide and when that didn’t work to purge the chocolate, Bandit was loaded into the car for a fast trip to the veterinarian’s office. Their first attempts to rid him of the chocolate failed, and after stronger medication was administered, Bandit finally started to give up his candy. He was the candy bandit and the name stuck. Twice it was thought that a home was found for him. The first time he was placed, Bob called the family the following day and was told that it wasn’t going to work as Bandit had sat at their door and cried since Bob left him. The second home wasn’t going to be a good fit either, so at Christmas, this little black and white guy received a dog tag which read Bandit Atkins. Bandit was fully of personality. He loved to be outdoors and would run as fast as his little legs would carry him down to the lake or the pond to get a drink. Bandit’s best friend was the neighbor’s dog, Oscar, a goldendoodle. Those two loved to play with each other. Bandit loved deli turkey and was first in line at the refrigerator. He would wag his tale uncontrollably and bite your finger at the same time. Whenever people would visit, all purses and bags were kept out of Bandit’s reach because he would get into them and steal whatever goodies they contained. Bandit was the life of the annual Christmas party, enjoying all the savory morsels guests slipped to him and he was quicker than a vacuum on any crumbs left behind. Bandit was one of a kind and we hope your food bowl is always filled with your favorite treats. We love and miss you!
